This victory catapulted her into British mainstream media’s consciousness, and she featured as one of five contestants in the reality TV show Ultimatepoker.com Showdown, where she was coached by top poker players Phil ‘The Poker Brat’ Hellmuth, Annie Duke, and Dave ‘Devilfish’ Ulliott.
PokerStars snapped her up as a sponsored pro, making her a key member of Team Pro. Front and center in many adverts, Boeree became the de facto female ‘face’ of the brand alongside legends such as Daniel Negreanu, Vanessa Selbst and Jason Mercier among others.
Playing guitar in heavy metal bands Dissonance and Nemhaim, Boeree garnered the nickname of the ‘Iron Maiden’ at the poker felt too. Modelling on the side, Boeree was the golden girl of poker, and won the Global Poker Index European Female Player of the Year on multiple occasions. She still ranks in the top dozen female players for live poker results in ranking tournaments.
Seven years after her success in San Remo, Boeree conquered the World Series of Poker, winning a WSOP bracelet for $273,964 with her Russian poker pro boyfriend Igor Kurganov. Two years later Boeree announced her departure from PokerStars in tandem with retiring from professional poker in order to pursue presenting and scientific pursuits. At the time of her leaving the profession of poker player, she was the only female player ever to win an EPT Main Event and WSOP bracelet.
