All my life, I’d grown up thinking that poker was just another gambling game, but when I was first introduced to the strategy elements of the game, I was instantly hooked. The fact that it wasn’t all up to chance; you could influence the outcome and still win real money made it incredibly appealing, and I’ve been in love with poker ever since.
This one is easy – it’s cash all the way. While I do enjoy the odd tournament, there’s something about grinding it out at the cash tables that feels like a purer form of poker. You get more time to analyze your opponents and determine their weaknesses; if things go wrong, you can just buy straight back in.
The best thing to do is remember that you’re still playing the same game. People have a tendency to view them as entirely different from one another because of how people play, but you shouldn’t. In every poker game, you should pay attention to how your opponents play and make adjustments. Sure, you’ll make bigger adjustments when playing live poker, but as long as you think about that, you’ll be fine.
While I’m a No Limit Hold ’em man at heart, I’ve also dabbled in a few mixed games. I have a soft spot for draw games like 2-7 and Badugi as I first learned poker playing 5-card draw. But, honestly, I’ll happily play any poker game I can find!
I am a student of the game with years of experience playing and studying poker. I regularly check training videos from some of the brightest minds in the game to stay aware of the latest strategies. I also am intimately familiar with poker solvers and use them to improve my understanding of GTO play.
In my opinion, the future of poker is a bright one. There’s no denying that technology will change how poker is played, and it’s likely that as things like solver and AI technology allow real-time assistance to become widely available, we will see big changes from online poker sites. However, people have been foretelling the downfall of poker since it started, and yet we’re seeing record numbers of players online and at live events. While we might have to change how we do things, I’m optimistic about the future of poker.
Like everyone reading this site, I’m a huge poker fan, so my social media is full of poker content creators – including the talented creators here at Tight Poker!
